How Essential Oils are Made

Before I talk about the oils we use on our Zaanti Aromatherapy products, let's quickly level set on how essential oils are made.

Essential oils are produced by steam distilling a large quantity of plant material (see image). They are highly concentrated, very powerful, and very aromatic.

As an example, one drop of Rose essential oil contains the essence of 60 roses!!!!!

This is why we buy organic essential oils-everything is highly concentrated, so if there were pesticides on the plant matter, that ends up in the oil,, and then on you. Yuck.

This is also why diluting your essential oils is so important. They smell amazing, but are so concentrated they can cause irritation if placed directly on the skin. You need to honor their power.

What I love about this process is that nothing is wasted. The leftover water after the steam extraction process is called hydrosol, which is used as a face toner, perfume, and more.
